EMPATHIC DISTRESS AND COMPASSION – with Shantam David Zohar
Febbraio 28 @ 10:00 – 12:30
EMPATHIC DISTRESS AND COMPASSION
Somatic resonance is inherent to human experience. While the relational impact of another’s suffering is natural, it may lead to a narrow, self-centered or pro-social, compassionate response. What makes the difference? Mindfulness practice may well birth the moment-to-moment attention to one’s underlying relational posture, freeing the individual to act with, rather than against, fellow humans.
Shantam David Zohar is Co-founder and Director of the three year Mindfulness Based Therapy Program at Tel Aviv’s Bar Ilan University, the first extensive training program at an Israeli university dedicated to a theoretical, experiential and professional exploration of Mindfulness Based Psychotherapy. He is also founder and director of the two year Authentic Movement Training.
Zohar is an award winning author and has studied and taught awareness practices for the past twenty five years. He is an adjunct faculty member at Tel Aviv University, where he teaches a course on Mindfulness to Clinical Psychology MA students, maintains a private psychotherapy practice and delivers workshops on Authentic Movement and interpersonal mindfulness practice internationally.
Zohar has completed a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies at Naropa University and an MA in Core Process Psychotherapy at the Karuna Institute and Middlesex University. He is a member of the Israeli Interdisciplinary Council for Psychotherapy.
