Trauma, Resilience, and Deep Healing – Meeting with Claude AnShin Thomas

A meeting with Claude AnShin Thomas, Zen Buddhist monk, former combat soldier, and advocate of nonviolence. As a proponent of peace and active nonviolence, Claude AnShin works worldwide and demonstrates through his own life how meditation and mindfulness can be cultivated in daily life.

Who it’s for:

“The meeting is primarily, but not exclusively, aimed at health professionals and those in helping relationships. The intent is to support caregivers and all those on a path of awareness who work on the front lines, dealing with the physical, emotional, and spiritual suffering of others. Meditation, in its many forms, can support our resilience and move us from talking and teaching to applying and embodying our knowledge and wisdom.”

Claude AnShin Thomas

Claude Thomas was born in 1947 in the USA. After experiencing significant forms of violence in his childhood, he volunteered for the Vietnam War at the age of 18, becoming a Crew Chief on assault helicopters. Today, AnShin emphasizes being responsible for the deaths of many people and the destruction of entire villages. Like many other war veterans, he found himself unable to reintegrate into society upon returning home. For many years, he battled post-traumatic stress, drugs, isolation, homelessness, and debilitating despair. Today, Claude AnShin Thomas is a Zen Buddhist monk, an International Peace Activist, an Author, and a Teacher in the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia. He has visited and engaged with various groups in Italy since 1993. He shares his inspirational spiritual odyssey from the horrors of combat to the discovery of the Buddhist path. Claude AnShin’s powerful story can serve as a helpful map for others who might feel trapped in cyclical patterns of negative thinking and habits, violence, war, and trauma.
