The Path of Radical Transformation – Shantam Zohar with Stefania d’Amore

Cultivating Kindness, Courage and Community

A journey to unearth the wisdom of body, mind and spirit

The Path of Radical Transformation incorporates personal and relational practices designed to cultivate mental health, organic healing and sustainable growth.  With origins in a broad array of contemplative modalities, the path promotes self-realization, sound clinical practice, and transformational group work.

The training and ongoing journey introduce participants to contemplative practices and therapeutic skills grounded in the forms of Authentic Movement, meditation and Kum Nye, compassion and self-compassion, chanting, relational mindfulness and Mindful Communication. The following seven skills will be presented, discussed, exemplified and explored:

  1. Sensing, Feeling, and Thinking: the building blocks of immediate, tangible experience. We will learn to identify and represent these appropriately as they arise and come into being. We will consider the Buddha’s words, “There is a body here” as a practical antidote to dissociative strategies so common to the human condition.
  2. Modes of Self: How we hold, perceive and represent ourselves has a major effect on our wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. We will explore several self-states and their potential uses and abuses in the relational field.
  3. The Mindful Narrative: Mindfulness practice delays the formulation of automatic narratives, thus providing practitioners with a cherished gap between interaction and conditioned reaction. We will consider how to make best use of this valuable repose.
  4. Wise Endurance: staying with it is a central practice in many contemplative practices. We will establish personal guidelines for the ways in which we take things upon ourselves in the clinical setting and in relationships at large. When is it best to sit and observe and what is the value of following impulse?
  5. Relational Impact: somatic countertransference and witness consciousness are seen as pivotal ingredients of the ongoing relational echo. How to know what’s mine and what’s yours? When does such categorization support sanity and when is it an obstacle to establishing contact and deepening trust?
  6. Motivational Insight: What do we strive to experience and what to avoid? Posing this one question, we will learn to distill the atom of motivation within complex action.
  7. Compassionate Contact: and at the heart of it all: Karuna. The heart’s trembling in response to pain and suffering. We will embrace the power of love.

The above nourish all healing relationships, magnifying brilliant sanity and sacred presence.

The workshop will include Authentic Movement, a relational, bare awareness embodiment practice. With origins in Jungian thought and Dance Movement Therapy, the form is broadly used to support clinical practice, artistic expression and transformational group work. It manifests as a relational practice within unity consciousness, where mover and witness are not separate.

Outcome

The Path of Radical Transformation allows practitioners to share an interdependent journey of body-mind and spirit exploration, to gain significant adequacy in body/mind integration and self-expression, develop subtle communication skills and harness kindness and compassion effectively both in and outside of the clinical setting.

Enrollment is annual; however the Path is ongoing, allowing for deepening growth.

After two years, participants will be certified to use the forms and depth principles of The PORT within their fields of expertise.
