Embodiment and Trauma recovery – An embodied approach to psychotherapy – with Arielle Schwartz

The mind-brain cannot think its way out of the symptoms of stress or trauma: it needs a way to work with the body to maximize healing. Polyvagal theory provides us with a transdiagnostic approach to therapy, addressing the physiological roots that underlie a wide range of physical and mental health conditions.
This approach allows therapists and clients to compassionately understand and treat the imbalances within the autonomic nervous system that form the basis of most mood, anxiety, or traumatic stress related disorders. Traditionally, talk therapy focuses on the narratives of specific life events or losses. While interventions that focus on telling the story about distressing or traumatic experiences can be beneficial, they are often insufficient to facilitate a rebalancing of the autonomic nervous system.
Within this program you will:
- Discover how to fine-tune the nervous system moment-by-moment to help clients come out of chronic stress
- Discover the power of positive neuroplasticity
- Address client’s health with simple breath, movement, and awareness practices
- Learn the fastest ways to reduce stress and regulate the nervous system
- Teach clients to naturally stimulate their vagus nerve to enhance their physical and emotional health

Arielle Schwartz, PhD, is an internationally recognized researcher and clinical psychologist, widely regarded as a pioneer in somatic therapy and for her innovative work on trauma and mind-body-spirit wellness.
Specializing in EMDR Therapy, somatic psychotherapy, and therapeutic yoga, she integrates traditional and innovative approaches to address complex issues such as Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), attachment trauma, and the treatment of chronic pain and illness. In her clinical model of Resilience-Informed Therapy, she has also integrated Polyvagal Theory, meditation, and relational psychotherapy.
For her, when approached through an integrative framework, trauma is not only an experience of loss or suffering, but also a gateway to greater awareness, an opportunity for growth and inner awakening, and the discovery of a new relationship with oneself, others, the world, and the sacred.
She offers retreats and workshops on post-traumatic growth in different parts of the world and is the author of several books, some of which have also been translated into Italian.
Teaching healthcare professionals and patients to cultivate hope, resilience, and the ability to find meaning in their experiences lies at the heart of her mission.
